The ritual Saturday morning house hunt was what first intrigued me into a career in architecture.

Since I can remember, I have admired this little rural “Nissen” shed just outside Jindabyne.

As the base building is now complete at Vaucluse, the all important finishes begin to be layered over the raw structure.

Dr Karl’s views on the future are well known so energy efficiency and self sufficiency are a central. Incorporating photovoltaic and water collection technologies, the alterations and additons also aim do more conventional architectural things like making sense of the orientation and nature of the site.

Camping out at 2000m is an exhilaration but also focuses you keenly and what is required for survival and comfort.

While in Venice over July I visited the recently restored Negozio Olivetti, originally commissioned in 1957 by Adriano Olivetti as a showcase or “business card” for his typewriters and calculators.

Featuring on the menu was spitroasted Lamb - cooked in our very own driveway.
