Camping out at 2000m is an exhilaration but also focuses you keenly and what is required for survival and comfort. Clothing and equipment must be light, versatile and weather proof. On this particular weekend however great weather prevailed and spring snow provided an extraordinary skiing experience. Bringing the conversation back to architectural matters however I admit to being very fond of my Macpac minaret tent which is beautifully designed and manufactured. It is home for the few days we are out in this sometimes very hostile environment and here are some of its statistics.
Capacity 2 person
Doors 1
usage 4-season
Floor area 2.4 sq meters
Vestibule 0.9 sq meters
height 99 cm
packed size 20cm x 51 cm
weight 2.4 kg
It is interesting to contemplate the dimensions and weight of this home that sits in your pack. The structure is simple and elegant with two extremely light alloy poles. The design resolves complex issues like waterproofing, insect protection, ventilation, entry and cooking vestibule and storage into a singular and attractive form. A classic piece of design in my view.
